"Fearless!" - The Historical and Artistic Black-Tie Event of 2012
Newburyport, MA (September 21, 2012) – The Custom House Maritime Museum and Newburyport Chamber Music Festival announce “Fearless!” -- an extraordinary black-tie evening of classical and maritime chamber music on Saturday, October 13, 2012, that will take place in the museum’s Moseley Gallery Hall of Ships. The highlight of the evening will be the World Premiere Performance of “Captain Samuels Speaks to the Sea!” an historic commission in tribute to the legendary Newburyport-built packet ship, Dreadnought, and her larger-than-life Captain, Samuel Samuels.
This special event brings together trio Ensemble Epomeo’s Caroline Chin on violin, David Yang on viola and Kenneth Woods on cello, along with Australian composer Melissa Dunphy and British poet Peter Davison, all of whom will perform during the course of this unique Newburyport event. “This extraordinary evening will simply thrill you with its historic and artistic notes of Newburyport's own past,” exclaimed Jane Niebling, executive director of Newburyport Chamber Music Festival, adding “Few venues provide the acoustical qualities, intimacy and ambiance experienced at the Custom House Maritime Museum.”
The program begins at 6:30 pm and includes a catered reception with exquisite hors d'oeuvres, champagne, wine, beer and other beverages along with a pre-performance tribute to Captain Samuel Samuels and the Dreadnought written and narrated by poet Peter Davison, with composer Melissa Dunphy singing sea shanty accompaniment. The evening’s chamber music concert by Ensemble Epomeo features both classical and maritime pieces including the World Premiere Performance, with an intermission and refreshments. Dessert, coffee and rum tasting provided by Turkey Shore Distilleries of Ipswich, Massachusetts, enhance the post-concert celebration with the artists.
Advance reservations are required, and encouraged early to avoid disappointment, as last year's fall concert played to a full-house audience that sold out well in advance! Tickets are $70 per person. Black Tie Suggested. Limited seating is available.
Experience a unique historic and artistic evening of champagne, hors d’oeuvres, chamber music, poetry, sea shanties, rum and incomparable memories in the home of Newburyport’s maritime heritage.
