Members of the Custom House Maritime Museum and their guests are cordially invited to our February First Friday Social -- which falls on February 1st, from 6:00-8:00pm.

With an ambitious year-round schedule of museum programming and activities now underway, we expand upon the storylines of our newly unfolding exhibition Upon A World Stage -- unveiling the debut of an exciting series of four Personal Historical Profiles, each focused upon a Newburyport son featured in our current exhibition; whose lives provide potent connections with United States and World History.Curator Kevin MacDonald

Join us Friday, February 1st, as Custom House Maritime Museum Curator Kevin MacDonald delivers the inaugural presentation featuring one of his favorite historical personalities, Captain William Nichols. Considered by the British a legendary "Holy Terror," Nichols was also a courageous Privateer, proud American Patriot -- and federally appointed Customs Collector at this very Newburyport Custom House from 1845 to 1849 during the administration of President James K. Polk.

Kevin MacDonald's personal research reveals intriguing insights of this "man without fear" whose distinctive and recurring characteristic of being in the right place at the right time, enabled his uncanny ability to both witness and participate in remarkable historical encounters.

Mark your calendar for this not-to-be-missed evening  -- and make it a point to join us at this compelling series of Sunday afternoon
presentations scheduled for each of the following three February weekends.
