September First Friday Night Social
Friday evening, September 3rd, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, members of the museum and their guests are invited to attend our popular First Friday Social -- free of charge. Come meet other members, directors and volunteers and enjoy a relaxing evening of conversation, company and discovery.
The "Deep Dive" this month will feature our newly acquired artifact, the 1772 Broadside containing the original bylaws of the Marine Society of Newburyport. This 238 year old document marks the founding of the society that is the very basis of Newburyport as a maritime force.
Our guest this evening is the principal of Newburyport Rare Books, Matthew Needle, a museum member and distinguished rare artifacts dealer and appraiser. Matthew's expertise was instrumental in establishing an opportunity for the museum to acquire this 1772 Broadside. He will offer his perspective on this rare document during an informal question and answer exchange.
We invite you to see this artifact in person Friday evening, and celebrate with us the marvelous fact that this authentic piece of history with such intimate connections to Newburyport has found its way home. For of all the nautical collections in which it could repose, in all the hands in which it has been held, through the grace of many and the enabling generosity of the Newburyport Five Cents Savings Bank, this priceless piece of Newburyport's past will now be preserved where it rightfully belongs -- in the care of the Custom House Maritime Museum.
For your refreshment, a selection of wine, beer, soft drinks and snacks will be served.
We encourage all members to invite a friend to this event who may be interested in joining our museum. And please, remember to bring your membership card with you!

Our mission is to protect, preserve and interpret the maritime heritage of the lower Merrimack Valley region and how it relates to American history.
