This Friday evening, August 6th, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, members of the museum and their guests are invited to attend our popular First Friday Night Social -- free of charge.

Join us for an enlightening summer evening of conversation and company.  Meet other members, directors and volunteers and enjoy this month's  "Deep Dive" featuring The Cheney Collection at the Custom House Maritime Museum.

His mission was history; Newburyport’s maritime history to be specific.  And what Robert K. Cheney assembled, collected and wrote from his perch on Rings Island over what would be the last 11 years of his life, represents a veritable maritime trove.  Rich.  Genuine.  Insightful.  Panoramic in scope.  An intimate and engaging maritime story told in family photo album manner.

Museum Research Library Chairperson Marcia Melnyk will provide an overview of the collection, an appreciation of its treasured content and of the great tale it tells.  While our special guest, Bill Plante, will offer a glimpse of the unique individual whose mission, insight and devotion furnished this endearing legacy.

For your refreshment, a selection of wine, beer, soft drinks and snacks will be served.
