John P. Marquand Reading Group
Discover or enrich your knowledge of the work of John P. Marquand, best-selling American novelist of the 1930s and 1940s and long-time Newburyport resident.
Once every 3 months, starting in March 2009 and ending in March 2010 (in advance of April 2010 Newburyport Literary Festival, which will feature several Marquand events), the group will gather to discuss one of Marquand's works.
Membership is free and all are welcome. The group will be limited to 10-15 people. Members will be selected on a "first come, first serve" basis. Beth Welch will lead the reading group. You can email Beth at bwelch@thechmm.org for more information or to join. You'll find snacks, beverages and spirited discussion at each meeting.
Members will need to borrow or purchase copies of the novels. You may also consider reading Millicent Bell's biography, John P. Marquand: An American Life, for additional background information on the author.
The current schedule and syllabus:
3/4/09 -- Wickford Point
6/2/09 -- Point of No Return
9/2/09 -- Sincerely, Willis Wade
12/2/09 -- H. M. Pullman, Esquire

All reading group meetings will be held at the Custom House Maritime Museum in Newburyport, MA.
