The Yankee Homecoming Week
AUGUST
First Friday Social
features
LIGHTSHIPS of the U.S. Lighthouse Service
Members of the museum and their guests are cordially invited to our Yankee Homecoming First Friday Social on August 3rd, from 6:00 to 8:00pm, as we feature a brief history of the U.S. Lighthouse Service's LIGHTSHIPS, the floating beacons of safe navigation.
We hope you are able to include this event in your busy Yankee Homecoming week schedule!
Essential partners with America's lighthouses in protecting mariners along the coasts and in the great lakes -- Lightships were used in waters too deep or otherwise unsuitable for lighthouse construction.
We welcome Captain Robert Dinsmore, a 30-year Coast Guard veteran, along with Robert Mannino of the Nantucket Lightship LV-112, who will present a Brief History of U.S. Lightships.
Don't miss our blockbuster summer exhibition, "ON GUARD!" made possible by the generous support of our sponsor Institution For Savings, exploring the breadth and depth of services provided by the United States Coast Guard while we celebrate their 222nd Anniversary! No place in American enjoys a longer heritage with the Coast Guard than does Newburyport, its birthplace.
For your refreshment, wine, beer and soft drinks will be served. This month, Sheila Mullins' highly acclaimed Spice Trade Culinary Adventure takes us to the Netherlands. Not to be missed! We proudly feature the great and distinctive beers of Harpoon Brewery, the official beer of the Custom House Maritime Museum.
